Caudill Sprouting LLC is honored to be a member of the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) at the renowned Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and to serve on its Sprout Safety Task Force.

Dan Caudill, Chief Operations Officer of Caudill Seed Co., serves on IFSH’s Technical Advisory Board. Composed of the FDA and food industry representatives, the board reviews research proposals and sets annual research priorities for the vital work conducted on the campus of this prestigious university.

Caudill Sprouting Co. has always been on the cutting edge of research and development in sprout safety.

IFSH builds on and expands the important work of NCFST, a unique research consortium consisting of IIT, the FDA, and the food industry. For more than 20 years, the center has provided a setting for scientists from industry, academia and government to pool their scientific expertise and institutional perspectives to ensure the production of safe, wholesome foods.

Established in 2011, IFSH plays a vital role in assisting the nation’s food companies and regulators with practical, authoritative information employing science-based outcomes. The world-class food science research institute produces valuable research in the areas of food safety.

IFSH’s Sprout Safety Task Force was formed to focus on food safety guidance and critical research needs required for the safe production of sprouts. Serving alongside Caudill Sprouting on the task force are Jonathan Sprouts, Brassica Protection Products, the International Sprout Growers Association, and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

A sub-committee of the task force was created to develop a Sprout Safety Audit Checklist that would serve as a tool for sprout growers in reviewing their operations and for sprout-specific third party audits.

In light of new requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (2011), the efforts of the IFSH are important to ensure that the food industry meets and exceeds its mandated preventive controls.
